Some of our skips are more than just a convenient way to dispose of your unwanted rubbish: some of them are works of art. Over the years, we have partnered with local artist Mik Richardson who turns our skips into a giant canvas on which he can unleash his artistic imagination. Mik’s most recent work of Skip Art is his sixth and was unveiled on Monday at the Sparhawk Infant and Nursery School. The skip featured a fantastical landscape of literary characters to encourage children to get reading in time for World Book Day.
Twenty Years of World Book Day
World Book Day is an annual event that takes place this year on the 2nd of March. Now in its twentieth year, World Book Day is aimed at encouraging children to engage more with reading. The exhibition of our newly painted skip is one of a series of events and activities planned for the week.
Characters for All Ages and Abilities
Mik Richardson’s stunning landscape features familiar characters from a long history of children’s literature from Britain and across the pond. Younger children who are new to reading will recognise the Very Hungry Caterpillar and Spot the Dog, whilst older readers will be enchanted by Harry Potter and Willy Wonka. Where’s Wally puts in an appearance as well (and we don’t mean company founder Wally Thurtle).
A Picture for the Local Paper
As well as the schoolchildren and their teachers, the local press were there to witness the unveiling of Mik’s latest work of Skip Art. Articles have already appeared on the websites of the Eastern Daily Press and the Great Yarmouth Mercury.
The skip will now go into general use. Mik’s artwork will be touring all over Norfolk as and where it is needed. If you are in need of a skip, please contact us 01493 668118. You never know, you might end up with a work of art outside your house or business.
