All Our Drivers Have the Certificate of Professional Competence

At WT Skip Hire, we are committed to training our staff to the highest standards to ensure they provide the best service to you. In particular, we ensure our drivers meet the requirements of the Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC). Legally, lorry drivers must complete a minimum of 35 hours of training every 5 years, which equates to one day each year. This is in addition to the formal training the driver has to receive to become a lorry driver, which nowadays is equivalent to an NVQ.

Driver Training

This training must be audited and done by an outside company and our drivers did another session on 15th September. The training covers all aspects of lorry driving, from safe loading to working hours, maintenance and vehicle safety checks. Once this is completed over the five years the driver is sent a driving qualification card by the Government which proves they are safe and legal. They must carry this whenever they are at work.

Legal Updates

The training refreshes the drivers’ knowledge but also updates them on any changes to the law covering their work. Drivers must follow stringent rules on how many hours they can work in a day and week as well as what breaks they must have. They are also responsible for the safety of their vehicle and the load they carry. This means that when the driver arrives at your door to deliver or collect a skip they are not compromised in terms of their ability to drive safely and they know how to load and unload the container without causing harm.

So the next time you pass a lorry on the road, remember the amount of training the driver has had to go through to get goods out to us!
