Avoid Fly-Tipping How to Correctly Dispose Of Loft Insulation

At the end of 2015, the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs released statistics which demonstrate the scale of the fly-tipping problem in the UK. Their research found that during 2014/15, local authorities were faced with 900,000 incidents of fly-tipping; something which cost in the region of £50 million to clear.

Just this week in Norfolk the problem has once again reared its ugly head. Last Sunday morning a walker discovered a van load of loft insulation which had been dumped in Thetford Forest. It was the second incident in the space of just a few days, following a large dumping of plasterboard in Lynford Stag. Roger Woods, a spokesman for the Forestry Commission, responded to the incidents by telling the Eastern Daily Press:

“The estimated cost of clearing this up is £2,500, increasing to £10,000 if there are signs of asbestos. We will prosecute if we have to and we have had some significant instances of that in the last couple of years.”
