With different regional councils adopting different kerbside collection routines, it is hard to get exact figures for the UK’s reuse, recycling and composting rates. That hasn’t stopped some organisations from trying and the results are a unanimous: Could Do Better. Whether it is down to laziness and confusion on the part of the disposer or inadequate procedures put in place by local authorities, too much that could be recycled winds up in landfill.
Different Recycling Procedures
It’s a postcode lottery as to what the council will collect from your doorstep. At one time, householders in Norwich were expected to store four different waste disposal receptacles – glass, plastic and paper, compostable waste and regular waste were all separated – other district councils supplied one black bin liner for everything. What can and can’t go in the various bins all depends on what your local council has said they are prepared to recycle. If you are uncertain, check out your local government website. This will contain comprehensive information about what can go in your recycling bin.
The Skip Solution
For projects that require a lot of disposal, this could be anything from a major domestic spring clean to a big commercial or structural alteration, hire a skip. That way we take care of the recycling end of things for you. All of the waste we collect goes to our waste management centre and we are pleased to be able to recycle 90% of it.
