As you may know, WT Skip Hire is very fond of recycling and ensuring any waste isn't taken to landfill. In Norfolk there have been plans in place since 2014 to cut down the amount of days recycling centres are open as well as charging people to enter the centre to recycle their waste. This has come as a shock to the residents of Norfolk as the demand to recycle and re-use is more important than ever. The Climate Change Act has imposed a legally binding target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2050, how will this be reached if we are being penalised for wanting to recycle? Plans to be dropped Norfolk County Council has decided that the plans to cut opening hours from 7 to 4 days a week at Heacham, Ashill, Morningthorpe, Strumpshaw and Worstead recycling centres have luckily been put on hold. These changes were due to start in April, saving nearly £167,000 a year. There were also plans to charge a £2 entry fee at 9 recycling centres from next year. This plan alone would have £280,000 a year; according to the council by they have decided this should also be dropped. Instead they will carry out a comprehensive review of the centres to see how saving could be made elsewhere. The review will be completed in September. Toby Coke, chairman of the environment, development and transport committee said: "Pressing the pause button on these changes is a good decision. It gives us more time to take a fresh look at our current range of services and infrastructure and see whether they really are helping Norfolk's residents to recycle as much of their waste as possible." We hope these plans are permanently dropped and the council find other alternative ways of saving money.
