In our recent blog, we touched on the issue of fly-tipping. During 2014/15 there were as many as 900,000 incidents of fly-tipping – an increase from the record low of 711,000 recorded during 2011/12.
Just two weeks on and we now read that Braintree District Council is investigating two incidents of fly-tipping at sites in Witham, Essex. The first incident saw 8-10 tonnes of mainly building materials and general waste. The second incident, which occurred over two days, saw 64 tonnes of waste dumped on private land. In both instances, it is thought that roll-on-roll-off containers were used, with the larger incident involving as many as 10 of the containers.
Speaking about the incidents, Wendy Schmitt, the district councillor for environment and place, said: “Fly-tipping is disgusting – it ruins the environment and costs councils and private landowners thousands of pounds to clear up.â€
How to Dispose of Your Construction Waste
In recent years, there has been a noticeable shift towards sustainability and increased attention is being paid to how we dispose of waste construction materials. At WT Skip Hire we recycle around 90% of the waste which goes into our skips – ensuring the amount of waste being sent for landfill is kept at an absolute minimum.
So, when it comes to planning your next construction project, it is well worth ordering a skip or considering if your waste can be recycled – particularly given that rules on the disposal of waste are so strict.
If you are planning to order a skip from us, remember that there is some construction waste that cannot be put into our skips. These items include, but are not limited to:
- Paints, oils and solvents
- Tyres
- Televisions, refrigerators and freezers
Also, if you need to dispose of asbestos, you will need to contact an approved contractor. If you are unsure at any stage about what can be put into our skips, please feel free to contact us and check.
If you are planning a renovation or construction project, no matter what the scale, we can safely and correctly dispose of you waste. To book a skip, simply call us on 01493 668118, drop us an email to info@wtskiphire.co.uk or use our new online booking form.
