If you have small children you will understand the importance of them eating the right foods and receiving the nutrients they need to grow up big and strong. With 'Ella's Kitchen' food brand, children can get all of that yummy goodness and be good to the planet at the same time. Ella's Kitchen packaging is made from different materials and so they need to be recycled in different ways. Ellacycle Ella's Kitchen food brand has recently launched a recycling scheme called 'Ellacycle' for its baby food pouches in collaboration with the multinational recycling company, Terracycle. The scheme has been put in place to help parents recycle the pouches, which are currently not collected for recycling by local authorities. This scheme is to encourage people to set up pouch collection points in public places such as nurseries or local shops. When the pouches are dropped off at an 'Ellacycle' collection point they will be sent to Terracycle. The company can then recycle the pouches to make useful things such as lunchboxes, benches and watering cans. Pouches The baby food pouches contain aluminium which is in-between two layers of plastic so are harder to recycle then other forms of Ella's Kitchen food packaging. Ella's Kitchen card containers are in accordance to the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) meaning it's sustainably managed and can be collected for recycling via the local authorities. The yoghurt pots and canisters however, can be recycled in most local councils. For every 100 pouches received, 2p per pouch is donated to the Ellacycler's chosen charity or nursery. For more information on the Ellacycle scheme watch the video below: Mark Cuddigan, managing director of Ella's Kitchen said: "At Ella's Kitchen it's important to us to be good to our planet. Pouches are designed to be lightweight in order to have fewer lorries on the road, bust as they are a mix of materials, they need to be recycled in a special way. By encouraging more families to recycle their pouches, it allows us to give more back to communities and local charities." Terracycle Terracycle originates from the US and was established in 2003, specialising in recycling materials for which there is little or no local authority collection in place and in which people see no value. The business joined the UK in 2009 and has collection schemes for many well-known companies such as:
- Kenco
- McVities
- Bic
- Febreze
- Tassimo
Terracycle also collects electrical waste and electronic equipment such as mobile phones and laptops.
