How is the Waste in Our Skips Recycled?

We take waste management seriously at WT Skip Hire, and won’t throw away anything that can be safely and effectively reused. We have a dedicated recycling centre, where we recycle around 90% of the waste from our skips. If you’ve ever wondered how these materials are recycled, and where, then read on!

Card and Paper

Paper and card is washed and pulped in a recycling plant where it can be used to make different products, such as cardboard or newspaper. Recycled paper produces 73% less air pollution than paper made with raw materials.

Recycling Skip Waste

Glass

Glass is 100% recyclable and can be reused again and again, but if it goes to landfill it will not decompose. Most waste glass is melted down and used to make new glass, while some is ground down to be used in construction projects.

Green Waste

Biodegradable waste, such as garden and food waste, is shredded and used to make nitrogen-rich compost.

Metals

Ferrous and non-ferrous metals are taken to treatment plants where they are melted down, made into ingots, and used to create new products. If you put your aluminium cans in one of our skips, they can be recycled and ready to use again in just six weeks.

Plastics

Plastic can be recycled many times. The mixed plastics in our skips are cut into small flakes, washed, melted down, and used to create a variety of new products. Carpets, rubbish bins, bike racks and insulation can all be made out of different types of recycled plastic.

Rubble and Soil

Rubble from construction sites can be crushed and reused as building material, while soil can be used in landscaping projects.

Recycling Skip WasteTextiles

Good quality textiles are simply re-used. Most of them are taken to developing countries where they provide people with affordable clothing and employment in repairing and selling used items. Low grade textiles are used as wiping cloths or as insulation for vehicles.

Wood

Sometimes waste wood is simply burned outdoors, uncontrolled. This is dangerous, damaging to the environment and often illegal. At WT Skip Hire, most of the wood we receive is shredded and made into bio fuels or animal bedding, and some is used in the wood burner at our recycling centre, which heats the building.

Recycling Skip WasteMost waste products can be recycled, reducing your carbon footprint and helping to save the world, a little bit at a time. Hire a skip from a responsible company who take their commitment to the environment seriously. Call WT Skip Hire on 01493 668118 or book your skip online.
