What Sized Skip Do You Require For Your Project

Domestic skip being delivered

We have spoken previously about problems which arise from overfilling skips. It does not matter whether you only slightly overfill or stack your skip to twice the fill line, it creates a health and safety hazard, an unstable load to transport, and will inevitably result in you being charged extra – so it really is not worth doing!

This problem most commonly arises because people order skips which are smaller than they require. When it comes to starting a project, we know it can be hard to estimate the size of skip required to dispose of all the waste generated. However, to help give you a rough idea of how much you can fit into our skips, we have created the following guide to help you identify the most suitable skip for your project.

  • 2 Yard: Holding approximately 25-35 black bags, the 2 yard skip is the perfect container for both domestic and commercial projects with minimal amounts of waste and is commonly used for garden clearances.
  • 3 Yard: With space for between 35 and 45 black bags, the 3 yard skip is one of our most commonly requested skips. It is perfect for small domestic refurbishments, such as bathroom or kitchen renovations, as well as disposing of waste from garden landscaping projects.
  • 4 Yard: Ideal for both domestic and commercial use, the 4 yard skip can hold approximately 45-55 black bags. If you are carrying out small renovation projects or house clearances, we would recommend you opt for this skip.
  • 5 Yard: The 5 yard skip features a drop door, which makes it the ideal choice for disposing of garden waste. Rubble and soil can be easily wheeled straight in, without the need for heavy lifting.
  • 6 Yard: If it is a larger refurbishment project you are planning, you may want to consider a 6 yard skip. It holds 65-75 black bags and depending on your requirements, can be supplied with or without a rear drop door.
  • 8 Yard: For very large garden landscaping projects and fully property clearances, we would suggest the 8 yard skip. We can supply these skips with a choice of cover or rear door.
  • 10 Yard: If you are planning a major project, consider choosing the 10 yard skip. Whilst it is not suitable for soil or rubble removal, its low level lip and high sides make it the ideal choice for disposing of bulky items.
  • 12 Yard: Many of our customers choose the 12 yard skip when planning industrial and commercial projects. It can be supplied with a cover and with high sides, it is ideal for large and bulky items.
  • 18 Yard: This is the largest sized standard skip we supply and with high sides can be used to store bulky items. However, please do not use these skips to dispose of soil or rubble.
  • 20 & 40 Yard Commercial Skips: For our commercial customers, we also offer a choice of 20 and 40 yard roll on roll skips. We are fully insured to provide skips of this kind and can meet almost any needs you may have.
