We like to stay up-to-date with what’s happening in the waste management industry – it inspires us and keeps us on our toes. That’s why we were so pleased to attend the letsrecycle.com Awards for Excellence in Recycling and Waste Management last week. We enjoyed it so much last year!
The award ceremony was held at London’s Landmark Hotel on Thursday 19th May. ITV presenter Charlotte Hawkins, who co-presents Good Morning Britain, hosted the event, with Lord Deben giving the keynote address.

Eleven awards were presented, celebrating the achievements of local authorities, community initiatives, charities, retailers and waste management companies. We were pleased to see Norfolk represented in two of the award categories. Norfolk County Council and Garden Organic were finalists for the Best Community Recycling Initiative award for their composting promotion work. Although they were pipped to the post by Chapter 1 Charity, Garden Organic received an honourable mention from the letsrecycle.com Twitter account.
Meanwhile, Norse Waste Solutions’ collection crew for the University of East Anglia won Collection Crew of the Year. We were delighted to see a Norfolk firm recognised. We can’t congratulate Ronnie Oakes and Fred Norris enough, and it was great to see that the UEA is continuing to set high environmental standards.

Linda Crichton, head of resource management at WRAP and member of the judging panel, spoke to the finalists and guests at the event. She said:
“When details of all the entries arrive I sometimes worry if there will be new ideas and solutions. But then I have no doubt, because it is wonderful to see how many people are still devising new and improved ways of delivering services and communications with innovation and fresh ideas.â€
