Zero Waste General Store Opens in Norwich

resource zero waste shop and cafe

The residents of the fine city of Norwich are frequently ahead of the curve when it comes to implementing environmental practices. The opening of a zero-waste general store and café on Timber Hill is the latest example of forward thinking in matters ecological. Shoppers at Re.Source will need to provide their own packaging to transport their goods home.

The shelves of the new store will be filled with jars of dry goods such as rice, pulses and pasta. There will be a deli section selling home-made plant-based milks and cheeses. Seasonal fruit and vegetables from local sources will also be available.

In an article about the opening of the new store, the Eastern Daily Press spoke to the owner of Re.Source. Cata Parrish told the EDP:

“It has been lovely the past few years that lots of us have realised the problems and so many programmes and headlines are focusing on the plastic problem and the science is so clear now.”

As a waste disposal company, we often get to see first hand the amount of waste generated by businesses. We think it’s great that a business like

Re.Source can run on zero waste and we wish them every success.

No doubt, there are some businesses that are interested in reducing their ecological footprint, but are not yet in a position to go zero waste. For these companies, hiring a skip may prove to be one of the most environmentally-friendly options. Over 90% of the waste materials that we collect are able to be reused or recycled. Plastic waste is sorted and separated and recycled into new plastic products.
