Leaving big piles of waste in your garden is not a good idea. Piling up waste in your garden can solve the immediate problem (of waste in your house) but can produce bigger problems further down the line. Here are some of the reasons why you shouldn’t leave the waste in your garden and tips to help you deal with it properly.
Consequences of Poor Waste Management:
Pests
Rodentia such as mice and rats will naturally be attracted to large rotting piles of rubbish. These vermin spread disease and infection. The bubonic plague isn’t the threat it once was, but the urine from these creatures can cause Weil’s disease so you really do not want to encourage them. It’s not just vermin you need to be wary of. In hot summer months, a range of insects may also be attracted to the rubbish mound. Wasps, flies and hornets can all make homes in rubbish piles. A nest filled with angry stinging insects will inevitably make removing the pile harder.
Fire Hazard
Lots of household waste is highly flammable, add this to whatever else there is on the pile and you have yourself a mound ready to burst into flames. Your local council may also take action against you if the rubbish mound is deemed a health and safety issue. Should the waste catch fire then your property and life could be at risk from flames and dangerous fumes.
Eye (and Nose) Sore
On top of all the health and safety concerns, the mound will also be a large eyesore in your neighbourhood. Unless your neighbour is Stig of the Dump, then it is unlikely that they will want a tower of household waste piling up in your garden. Waste that includes organic matter is likely to start to smell as it decomposes.
Solutions to the Problem
If the mound in your garden gets past a certain point then transporting it yourself to a tip may not be an option. Hiring a skip is your best option. At WT Skip Hire we have the perfect range to help you. Depending on the size of the rubbish mound, our smaller skips are probably best suited to removing the waste. Here you can find our range of skip sizes. If the rubbish mound has gotten completely out of control then you may need a larger skip. Just so you know the limits of acceptability, here’s a list of items we do not accept in our skips.
