If you are familiar with us here at WT Skip Hire, you will know we are big fans of Trash Girl – Norfolk’s waste superhero. In recent months, she has received nation and worldwide attention for her superb efforts, which is an achievement in itself. However, she recently went one better, becoming one of the youngest ever WWF earth hour ambassadors.Â
Nadia Sparkes – An Earth Hour Ambassador
The last few months must have been exciting for Nadia. She has gone from starting high school, to gaining national recognition for her work, to then becoming one the youngest ambassadors in WWF’s Earth Hour project. Trash Girl will be joining the WWF team in supporting Earth Hour by asking people to join her in making a promise to the planet. She uses her Facebook page, which has amassed over 3,000 followers, to encourage her followers to reduce waste in their communities and it’s working. There are hundreds of images of collected waste in the group from the many members and many people seemingly following in Nadia’s footsteps.
What Is the Earth Hour Project?
Earth Hour is a global movement that millions of people across the world are involved in, focussing on a call for greater action on climate change. It’s an annual event which asks those participating to switch off the lights in their home and take part in community events to show they care about the future of our planet.Â
There were around 9 million people who took part in the event last year and people from various cities across the world were involved. Aptly named Earth Hour, the project takes place this Saturday at 8:30 pm. You can get involved in the event by making your promise on the WWF website, where you can also find more information about the history of the event.Â
Our Waste ManagementÂ
Like Nadia, we are passionate about ensuring that the waste we collect is disposed of correctly. We recycle 90% of the waste collected in our skips. For our customers who are as worried about waste disposal as us, we can provide a waste report, giving you a detailed breakdown of how much of your waste was recycled.
To help us with our recycling, we have a number of set containers which we organise our waste into. This allows us to deal with the vast majority of waste we collect and stops us from mixing up the different waste. We can dispose of a variety of different waste from plastics to rubble and soil. We have all of the necessary licences and insurance to carry out our work.
