Now into the second week of 2018, Christmas and Boxing Day are starting to feel like a lifetime ago. The festive period, paired with the barrage of sales after it, can often lead to houses becoming overrun with clutter and waste that should really be dealt with. If you can’t wait for spring to do your big clean, then now is the perfect time to do so. In this blog, we will be talking about what you should do to order your house and the best way to deal with the waste after your clear out.
How to Plan Your Clean Out
“In preparing for battle I have always found that plans are useless, but planning is indispensableâ€. These are the wise words of Dwight D. Eisenhower, 34th president of the United States. Although planning a house clear out is not the same as preparing for a war, dealing with all the waste in your house can sometimes feel like a battle. Before you start clearing your house, it’s important to get an idea of the waste you will encounter in each of the rooms of your house. Here are some of the main rooms you should plan for clearing out:
- Bedrooms – Often a hotspot for a build-up of clutter, the bedroom needs careful attention. If you have small children it’s likely there is a mountain of plastic in their rooms. Now is the time to deal with it and other packaging or old toys not needed anymore.
- Bathrooms – Teenagers will know the pain of unwrapping numerous Lynx box sets every year, often having leftovers from the year before. Soaps and creams and perfumes that you like get used. No point storing the rest. Be ruthless.
- The kitchen – If you have a budding chef in your household, it’s likely that Christmas was a busy period for them. But do they really need two or three of every utensil? Removing this clutter and the half-eaten boxes of chocolate is a step you can take to get your kitchen looking shipshape.
- Living rooms – Usually the main victim of clutter, your living room may require some special attention. Tidying-up guru, Marie Kondo, recommends that if you hold a possession and it does not give you a spark of joy – you should dispose of it.
Dealing with The Waste
The sheer amount of waste produced over the festive period and the confusion over household waste collection dates may be what leads to the increase in fly-tipping cases in the weeks after Christmas. One of the easiest and most responsible ways to deal with the waste generated by a post-Christmas clear out is to hire a skip. Here at WT Skip Hire we have a wide range of skips available, perfect for dealing with all that clutter. We follow a strict waste management policy, recycling 90% of the waste we collect and sorting different waste into set containers. Here though are some of the materials we can’t accept in our skips.
If you require a skip, call us on 01493 668118 or email us on info@wtskiphire.co.uk.
